Kelly Cleveland has been singing and has dabbled in many instruments such as violin, guitar and keyboard since her early childhood. She has studied voice with Debra Perry in New Bedford, and enjoys singing, playing, and listening to many musical genres. Her experience singing in different styles allows her to explore the versatility of REF’s catalog, whether performing sweet ballads, or belting out a raucous country rock selection. Kelly hopes to continue studying fiddle and perhaps add another layer to the REF sound.

Bios

Tim Murphy is a walking encyclopedia of American songwriters, and enjoys introducing audiences to great music that they’ve probably never heard, plus the occasional original song. His outstanding acoustic guitar playing encompasses fingerstyle, bluegrass, country and rock. Tim is a powerful singer whose voice reflects his love of American song traditions and his Louisiana roots.

Derek Escher has been playing guitar for more than 40 years. He adds multiple flavors of lead instrumentation to the band, ranging from pretty mandolin (a new addition a few years back), to psychedelic electric guitar. He is somewhat of a natural showman, and he plays out frequently as a sideman with a number of acts, including The Fuzzy Side Band, The Barefoot Davis Band, and with Donna Lange, Joe Colpitt and Michael Beans, among others. Derek has several originals cooked up with REF that have a bit of a Caribbean flavor to them.

Ken Taylor has been performing in bands since he was 18, and has lent his instrumental skills to everything from Reggae bands to a 12-piece Chicago blues revue. He holds a degree in Ethnomusicology, and throughout his career as a musician he has played as many as two dozen instruments. Ken has contributed several original songs to the group’s repertoire, as well a providing instrumental colors on bass, guitar, mandolin, and dobro.

Rand Torman has been playing drums and percussion instruments since he was 15 years old. He has a varied musical background, having been trained in woodwind instruments as a young boy and learning other instruments later in life. Growing up in a music oriented family, Rand has played in bands since his teenage years, and continues to be the zendrum percussionist with the Fuzzy Side Band as well as REF. He enjoys all genres of music and loves the versatility he can bring to the group with the zendrum.
